I also collecting CDs. Recently I'm looking for some more information regarding a gold-plated (not 24Kt gold) CDs pressed in the late '80s by the Record Service GmbH in Alsdorf. The information I'm looking for will be used to write an article on my website, which is tied to Phil Collins and Genesis collectible CD releases. I'd like to avoid a mistake while I write the articles on my website, however I'm not sure about the information I already have. The series was prepared by the BILD, the Sunday edition and offered to its customers on order. The CDs were pressed by Alsdorf CD plant (a main WEA supplier) with a gold-tone label. However, these CDs were NOT gold (meant 24K gold such DCC or MFSL). The same CDs were also sold under the "40 Golden Greats" series issued by WEA and sometimes offered during the "MID-Price/Extra Price" program. In this particular case, the jewel case bears a yellow "Mid Price" sticker. Hyperlink [www4.picturepush.com] This was a limited run, but the quantity wasn't really small. These CDs, I suppose where often available in the stores in the late 80s across the Germany and a few other European countries with a yellow/gold sticker "40 Golden Greats". My question is if the jewel case holds "BILD am Sonntag" red sticker on the lid it means that this CD was buy it on order from the "BILD" newspaper? Am I correct? Is the Sunday edition of BILD released a catalogue with items available on sale in the '80s? I have seen vinyl records and VHS tapes with "BILD am Sonntag" stickers so I suppose these where offered by BILD. However, "40 Golden" discs were also available in Europe, back in the day. I have seen the discs offered by sellers from Itally, Austria and Sweden. Moreover, I have personally bought a Phil Collins "Face Value" release with a gold-tone disc in the UK! I did a little research on this subject and I have find out that discs, which were on sale in some European countries not always have "Golden Greats" sticker on the lid. So these CDs were offered also as a regular CDs? I also contacted with sellers asking them if they perhaps replaced an original jewel case? A guy from Italy wrote that he bought the CD as it is, without any stickers on the lid. This is my another unanswered question. I'm sorry cause this questions are not tied in any way with a CD sampler website or particular sampler, but I don't really know the better place where I can ask this questions. Steve Hoffman forum have some threads regarding "WEA Gold CD", but I'd like to get a more information from the German collectors. I will appreciate any reply to this topic.
